First Lady Michelle Obama was the commencement speaker for Spelman College’s graduating class of 2011.
Today(Sunday), seniors from the historically black women’s college, in Atlanta, had the privilege of hearing words of encouragement and responsibility from the First Lady of the United States. Mrs. Obama told the students their degrees are not to be taken lightly…….
It’s not a gift with which you can do whatever you please,” she said. “It is a commitment that comes with a certain set of obligations, obligations that don’t end when you march through that arch today.
You have an obligation to see each setback as a challenge and as an opportunity to learn and grow. You have an obligation to face whatever life throws your way with confidence and with hope.
In addition to the First Lady’s keynote address, actress Phylicia Rashad, above, received an honorary degree from Spelman College president Beverly D. Tatum during the ceremony held at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park, Ga. Congratulations graduates!!
