What a way to start a season……
As Los Angeles Angels players left the ritzy Le Parker Meridien hotel and boarded the team bus around 8 a.m., they encountered a shocking scene on W. 56th St., where a Manhattan man lay dead after plunging from the hotel’s rooftop in an apparent suicide.
DETAILS HERE
Pitchers Jered Weaver(pictured above) and Matt Palmer were coming out of a coffee shop across the street and witnessed the scene before police had arrived and covered the body with a sheet.
“Weaver actually saw him (land),” Palmer said. “As a believer in Christ, you have to sit there and pray for the man. You don’t even know him, but you think about what he might have been going through and you’re hoping that his family – or whoever he has – can somehow fathom what he did. As far as myself, it was an eye-awakening scene. Even if I have a bad day on the mound, it’s nothing compared to what he just did.”
Asked how Weaver was holding up, Palmer(pictured above) said:
“He was shocked….It’s one of those things that you don’t see every day. Whenever you see a body hit and shoes (fly) off, and pants all of a sudden fall down – that’s something he saw, not me. I saw the aftermath of it.
“I felt kind of sick to my stomach. There was a big truck parked in front of where he landed, so I didn’t see (the impact) personally. But I looked across the street and I was like, ‘What the heck is that?’ I took another look and was like, ‘That’s a person. No way.’ I’m not trying to be disrespectful or anything, but as I walked across the street I just kept staring. It’s just something you don’t see every day….It’s hard to see something like that, and hard to take it.”
OMG!!!
What a terrible situation to encounter! SMH!!
Say it with me folks, “What in the Hell!”
Which I’m sure……. is what the players said when they saw it!
So Sad!!
